Order for Catmar Explorer 74 ft

Catamaris : Order for a Catmar Explorer 74 ft for a Spanish client (2022 until 2025).

In 2022 Catamaris – part of Jan de Boer Catamarans – received the order for building a 72 feet full custom built sailing catamaran, suitable for marine science expeditions in the oceans, for crewed charters, as well as for circumnavigation.

After detailed studies, engineering calculations and defining the cutting files by our business partner, Marimecs naval architects and designers, the certified aluminium raw material plates were ordered and then cut into hundreds of dimensionally accurate components by a specialized company and delivered to our building partner Dijkstra Jachtbouw BV shipyard in Harlingen in January 2023.

The Dijkstra yard is certified by “Germanischer Lloyd” and “Bureau Veritas” and already built over 180 aluminium catamarans and other special commercial vessels.

Committed to the sustainable reduction of its carbon footprint, the Dijkstra yard focussed in particular on the materials used:

  1. Certified Aluminium for hulls and superstructure
  2. Stainless steel for the several components
  3. Cork for deck coverings
  4. BV-approved insulation of complete hulls and super structure
  5. All inside panels covered with high-quality and environmental friendly materials
  6. VOLVO diesel engines meeting the highest rates

After an impressive welding job, the turning of the hulls was in 2023 and finishing of the interior could start and would take another 1,5 years.
Throughout the years of building, Chris Minnee has been the simulating force as project initiator and -manager.
